PureTrack FAQ

Why is there not an Android app?
PureTrack.io is a website, so you can use it on any device. To make the website work like an app, you can 'save to your homescreen' on both Android and iOS. See our 'how to install' video for info.
For tracking your location on Android you can use any of supported apps.
We do have an official iOS PureTrack app, however this is a simply a wrapper of the website, and adds a convenient way to use your iPhone as a tracker.
How is PureTrack different to FlightRadar24 or FlightAware?
While PureTrack shows ADSB traffic like FlightRadar24, we also show data from other sources including SPOT, InReach, Cellular trackers, FLARM, OGN and many popular paragliding apps and devices.

Unlike FlightRadar24 and other flight tracking services, PureTrack is not limited to aircraft. You can share and track your vehicle, boat or even people.
How is PureTrack different to SafeSky?
SafeSky is designed to give situational awareness while flying. PureTrack can do that too, but is primarily designed for general safety tracking.
All SafeSky traffic goes to OGN, which displays on PureTrack. So the two work together quite well.
SafeSky is not avialable in all countries, while PureTrack works worldwide. PureTrack also tracks more than just aircraft.
Why do some aircraft appear on another ADSB website but not PureTrack?

PureTrack uses two systems for ADSB data: ADSBHub and ADSB.lol.

ADSBHub provides world wide data with fast updates (every few seconds). You can see if there's an ADSB Hub receiver in your area at https://www.adsbhub.org/coverage.php

ADSB.lol provides global coverage with an update interval of 60 seconds. A handy backup to ADSBHub.

You can help by adding your own ADSBHub receiver! Learn More . It's easy if especially if you've already got an ADSB receiver set up.

Why use PureTrack over the Open Glider Network (OGN)?
All OGN traffic is displayed on PureTrack. So it's a great alternative OGN traffic viewer. PureTrack also combines OGN data with ADSB and cellular tracking data onto the same map, along with your SPOT or Inreach tracker.
If I have multiple trackers, which one does it show?
The last received position from any source is shown. When viewing a track, you'll see all location data from all sources. By hovering over the height chart, you can see what source each individual point came from.
How long is tracking data stored?
Currently we keep all tracking data for a maximum of 6 days, and then it is deleted. This may change in the future. Note OGN data for all users is only available for 24 hours. PureTrack Pro users can access the full 6 days of data. Non-pro users can access 24 hours of track data.
Can I delete a track?
Generally no, contact us if there is an emergency!
How private is the tracking data I send to PureTrack?
All data sent to PureTrack is public, see our terms of use for more information.
What does the colour of each item on the map indicate?
Each item on the map is given a random colour, so you can easily keep track of which object is which, even when they move around on the map.
What’s the difference between the GNZ tracking system, WildTrack and PureTrack.io?

PureTrack.io website is Tim’s latest project, that is a more advanced version of the GNZ tracking system, but designed for the rest of the world. And for other types of aircraft, not just gliders.

Not all the data from the GNZ system is going onto PureTrack yet, so NZ glider pilots should stick with gliding.net.nz/tracking. That will remain the GNZ system to use indefinitely.

Currently what is NOT going into PureTrack.io, and only to gliding.net.nz/tracking:

  • Particle trackers.
  • Things that will work with PureTrack:

    • SPOT and InReach through the US service can also set up their devices in PureTrack if they want to.
      • The WildTrack iPhone app.
      • Cell phone apps like BTraced and Overland set to send data to gliding.net.nz will also send data to PureTrack
      • SPOT and InReach through TrackeMe.
      • MT600s. All MT600s in GNZ also go to PureTrack.io
      • FLARM tracking will appear on both sites (including apps that use flarm tracking like SeeYou Navigator).
      • All ADSB data from ADSBHub is going to PureTrack. Gliders and some tow planes are also sent to gliding.net.nz/tracking

Eventually we will make sure all data from GNZ site will also go to PureTrack and vice versa, but in the meantime stick to gliding.net.nz/tracking
